In "Killing Them Softly" two small-time crooks rob a poker tournament and escape with the prize money. But then the contract killers Cogan (Brad Pitt) and New York Mickey (James Gandolfini) are assigned to them and the situation escalates. Staged by Andrew Dominik ("Blonde"), this mix of gangster thriller and resounding social criticism is genre cinema of the highest artistic perfection.

"Spring Breakers" comes from scandal director Harmony Korine ("Gummo") and is therefore, despite the (former) Disney stars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, not a shallow party comedy, but a loud, bulky, weird, crazy gangster satire in the garish neon look.
